(Summit Voice article) We have all experienced different temperatures inside a black car and a white car during the summer. A recent published paper by Stuart Gaffin at Columbia University stated that simply changing the roof color from black to white could reduce city temperatures while cutting down on energy usage and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. A new NASA study proved that roofs covered with white materials reduced peak roof surface temperature up to 43 degrees compared to a typical black roof.
